How I Review

Rating System

1 star: Hated/could barely finish

2 star: Disliked. Some redeeming qualities.

3 star: It was ok, not fantastic but still enjoyed.

4 star: Really liked it.

5 star: Amazing!

Spoiler Level

None: No spoilers at all, will talk more about my feelings/opinions than the specifics of the book itself.

Ex: I really enjoyed the friendship between Harry, Ron, and Hermione. Their different strengths and weaknesses work together well and make them a great team.

Low: May touch on small plot points and themes, but will not spoil anything significant (deaths, plot twists, etc.)

Ex: One of my favourite parts of the book was when Harry and Ron saved Hermione from a troll in the girl's bathroom because they learn how to work together in times of danger.

High: Discusses major plot points. Not recommended unless you have read the book.

Ex: In the end, Harry's bravery, Hermione's intellect, and Ron's loyalty help them defeat Professor Quirrel (a.k.a. Voldemort).

One Sentence Synopsis

What's this? Where's the full synopsis?

Personally, I don't like when I reviewer spends tons of time on the synopsis. I usually already know the synopsis at this point, and have already read/heard it from multiple reviewers already. In my experience, I tend to skip over reviews that merely summarize the book without offering much of an opinion, so I've tried to avoid this style of reviewing.

If you don't already know what the book is all about, I've written a one sentence summary that will hopefully convey the main points and pique your interest.

Length of Reviews

You may find that I am not consistent in the length of my reviews. This is based on how much time I have available and on how interested I am in the book.

As a rule of thumb, non-spoiler reviews will be short and sweet, high spoilers will be practically essays, and low spoilers will fall somewhere in the middle. Depending on how much you want to read, you may want to choose reviews accordingly.
